It was dark and cold in the house. Outside a storm was raging that had knocked out the power. Eva was alone. Her family had went out hunting that afternoon, hoping to return before the storm. But it was apparent to her that it wasn't happening. So there she sat huddled upstairs in her closet with a flashlight and her Ipod blaring music, trying to drown out the sounds coming from outside of the windows. She was scared and alone. It was pitch dark with the exception of the light from her flashlight and the intermittent flashes of lightening coming from under the door. Why did everyone have to go? Couldn't one person stay here? No, she knew they needed to go feed and she wouldn't hold them back from getting the blood they needed. Who was she to ask one of her family members to starve just for her peace of mind. No she was too sweet for that.
Everything was going good for a little while until her Ipod died. Then all she could hear was the howling wind, beating of rain and hail against the glass, and the booming coming from the thunder after every flash of light. This was terrifying. She wasn't sure how long she could stay in here. The walls were beginning to close in on her and that was when Eva knew she had to get out. Maybe downstairs would be better?
Slowly, the brunette stood up, her flashlight clutched in a death grip and carefully opened her closet door. Once open, all the noises grew louder and the flashes brighter. This storm was wild and she only had a sheet of glass separating her from the elements. Quickly she darted from the room that had once been Edward's and ran down the stairs. The flashing and noises were still deafening. After every flash she could swear she could see spots in front of her eyes. Her little heart beat wildly inside of her chest as she moved to go into the walk in pantry that was located just inside the kitchen but centrally in the house. She knew this was a temporary hiding spot but hoped someone would find her soon.

Edward was home alone. Bella and Nessie were out with Jacob. Shopping and what not. And so here Edward was alone in his house. He was used to the storms that came to Forks. And was more worried about his step sister Eva. He knew she hated storms. And he grabbed his cell phone to call her. But got voicemail. Knowing Eva she used the cell till it died. He had to go to his family home and check on her. He knew she was probably scared to death in that house. His dad Carlisle let Edward know that the family went out to feed. And he was not that hungry. Plus Bella got smart enough to leave animal blood in wine bottles in the fridge. So he didn't have to go out and hunt. And that was starting to take affect. Hunger. He knew before he went over to see his sister he had to have something. He walked through the cabin home and into the kitchen. And grabbed a wine bottle. Lighting flashed too many times. And then thunder booms afterwards. He hurried up and checked his eyes basically checking they were golden brown again before he left.
He grabbed his car keys for his Volvo and flashed out to the car. And got in and made his way into the deep woods headed to the Cullen Family Home. He drove up instantly to the front drive way. And flashed inside the house. Knowing that the lights were out. And that it was pitch black. Besides the lighting giving light every few seconds. "Eva?!" He called her name out. Hoping she would hear him. He was worried about her. He listened closely for her heart beating. And found it instantly. And ran to the pantry. He swung the door open and found her trembled fragile self in the bottom floor as he knelt down in front of her..."Hey honey. It's okay. I'm here now." He smiled a warm smile at her. "You let your cell die again didn't you? Music?" He asked concerned. He was worried it showed on his face. He was worried. He cared and loved his sister so much. He never thought of her being adopted. Just as he didn't with his other siblings. He loved them all. And would do any thing and everything for them. He deeply loved his entire family. Including Jacob. Who he had a hard time in the beginning. But they've grown since then....

Eva couldn't stand the sound anymore. It was so loud in the house and she wished someone would return home. She would take anybody at this point. It didn't matter who. After the next round of crashes from the thunder, Eva put her hands over her ears. Still it was almost deafening but the sound was muted a little. Tears started to slip from her eyes and she clenched her lids shut trying to block out the flashing. But it did nothing to hold back her tears. They began sliding down her cheeks leaving stains that ran all the way to her chin before dropping off onto her shirt. Her shoulders began to tremble as the sobs began wracking her body. Why did it have to storm tonight of all nights?
The girl could have sworn she heard the door bang open. She didn't get her hopes up as it could have been the wind. But then it was there. That voice she had grown so used to. Edward. He was calling out her name. But before she could answer he was opening the door. She looked up at him with her big jade green eyes as tears kept falling. She had to look a hot mess sitting there next to the canned goods. And when he knelt down in front of her she launched herself forward, burying her face in his chest and wrapping her arms around his neck. This was where she was comfortable. He made her feel safe. It was like he was the other half of her, her twin. Only he had been born decades before she had. "The power went out. Then it was so loud. I was in my closet until my phone died. Then I came down here." She paused and looked up at him. I thought a tree was going to come through the window." She sniffled a little and swiped her hand across her face, trying to banish the tears away. "Is anyone else here?" She asked trying to peak around him before another flash of lightening and thunder sent her face back into his chest.

Edward frowned at her reaction. Only because he was so worried about her and he held on to her. As he let her cling. He was big brother after all. And he knew he had a special bond with Eva. It was like they were meant to be brother and sister. Alice was happy for Edwards closeness towards Eva. He needed someone like Eva. And Alice of course saw her coming into their little family before Eva even came around. Just like she saw Bella before she even moved to Forks. Edward held Eva close as he listened to her tell her what happened. He was right about the cell phone dying because of her music playing then. "No honey. You were the only one here. Everyone should be coming back though. Or they decided to play baseball. Awesome weather for it..." He showed Eva baseball their style once. And even Bella played and struck out Rosie once...Rosie being a sore looser took it hard. But it was a fair play. "I'm sorry you had to be here alone. But you aren't any longer. Looks like the storms trying to stop to. Would you like to listen to some piano music?" Surely that would calm her nerves...
He pulled her over to the piano area and shut the curtains a little. So the lighting wouldn't bother her and lit a few scented candles for her to see. And he took a seat at the piano and started playing something rather calm and peaceful. He hoped this was working for her and that she would calm down. She might know this piece any way and join him. He taught her how to play any way. He played soothing and hoped she was calmer now than she was when he first calm by. He knew she had to be. Because she was with him now and all should be okay in her heart. He was her big brother and he held the title very well. This song he was playing he wrote for her birthday and taught her how to play it. He just wasn't sure how bad her nerves were he read minds not emotions. That was Jasper's gift. But at least she wasn't alone anymore. That was enough for him to realize that she was not sad or scared. The storm didn't bother him at all. He was fearful of it and used to it. He was scared of them though once. When he was human. He hated thunderstorms like this....

Baseball. Eva remembered the time they took her to the baseball field. She remembered it was stormy like tonight and she had been miserable. She had even asked to leave long before the game was over. But for the little bit that she had watched she thought the game was cool. She had even wondered if she would ever get to play. But she knew that first she had to get over her fear of thunderstorms. It was during her reverie that Edward said something about piano music. Her eyes lit up as she looked up at him and nodded. Eva loved it when Edward played the piano. He had even taught her when she had first come into the family. Piano music was so soothing and it made everything so much better.
Eva watched him as he went through the motions to set the scene for a more relaxing environment. And when he sat down and started playing, Eva found herself gravitated to the bench next to him. She sat down and watched as his fingers gracefully flew across the keys. It was beautiful and calming to watch him play. Her heart rate slowed from the frantic racing to a slow rhythm mimicking the steady melody. Slowly her fingers crept to the keys and began playing along on the other side of the instrument. The motions came to her naturally and soon she was swept up in the music. It was so much easier to pretend she was safe and home on a sunny day with them playing like this. Not surrounded by the storm outside the windows. It was now in this moment that she didn't care where anyone else was. It was just the two of them, playing her favorite song that was written just for her. This was home.

And Edward was loving every minute of this. He especially loved it when she started playing the song with him. To bad there were no lyrics yet. She could sing like an angel. He loved hearing her sing. She sang at Nessie's birthday party last year. And Nessie loved it! Still Edward was concerned for his baby sister. He hoped she was okay. He hated seeing her scared or upset. He wanted her to be happy. And if she was happy so was he. They kinda share each others emotions. Jasper thought this was so unique. For two people who didn't have any real relation to have a strong emotional connection was so unique. And Edward didn't even mind it either. Bella would find him upset at times during the night times at home and had to comfort him. He knew when this happened out of the blue his sister was upset. Carlisle and Esme couldn't figure this out. No one could. It was like they were really brother and sister. Maybe in a past life they were and found each other again in this life time? Jacob thought that was kinda silly. But stopped teasing Edward about a while ago.
As the song ended, the lights flickered back on and Edward smiled. "Feel better?" He asked Eva as he looked over at her. He hoped she would be. He would stay with her all night if he needed to just to be sure she was okay. That was his loving and caring side. He also was extremely protective of Eva as well. Anyone messed with her, they messed with him. Once he scared the shit out of some of the school kids that were bullying her. And they never bothered her again. He also knew she hated riding in cars. So he had to be careful with speed. She made him wear seat belt to. Even though he didn't need one. He stood up and started to blow all the candles out after the power came back on. "Hungry?" He asked as he went into the kitchen. "Mom shopped yesterday. So I'm sure there's good stuff in here for you that I can fix." He of course learned to cook with Bella's help. Since Nessie was a hybrid she also needed human food. He went into the kitchen and grabbed her favorite soda drink and handed her a can of it. He wanted her to stay as relaxed as possible. Him being here was enough. But him being calm was even better.

Eva loved moments like this. When it was just her brother and her. Even if they weren't doing the same things. He could just be in the room with her and she would be happy. And her heart rate proved it. She had calmed down a lot. Edward always knew how to make her feel better. He was so good at it. She couldn't stay mad or upset around him.
The song ended and then the lights flickered back on. Eva sighed a sigh of relief but secretly wished they were still off. She knew that with the storm calming and the lights on that the rest of her family would be home soon and that Edward would go back home. But she didn't tell him that. When he asked if she felt better she just smiled and nodded as she slid her hands to her lap. Then he was up moving to the kitchen and she followed. When he said something about food her stomach gave a involuntary grumble. "I guess I am." She said with a slight chuckle. Once in the kitchen she sat down at the bar. "She got lots of stuff. I didn't go but she got some of the pasta I like and stuff to make homemade pizza." She spoke as she reached over and grabbed an apple out of the bowl before taking a bite.

Edward gave a grin...Esme knew how to care of them all. Even Eva and Nessie. And she babysat for him and Bella a few times with Rosie's help of course. Edward was a good dad. He loved Nessie with his entire being. Now that he looked it how could something so precious be damned? He shook the thoughts out of his head and looked back at his sister as he saw her grab an apple. A healthy choice. He remembered as being human he loved them. He did miss them at times. But he just had to get used to the way things were now. He was alive because his mother begged Carlisle to save his life. He was here basically because of his mother. "You picked what I would have..." He told her as he meant the apple. And he grabbed her favorite drink for her and sat it on the kitchen counter..."So are you gonna tell me ever why you are so scared of thunder storms? Because this is the fourth one and you've not grown used to them yet?" He asked her. He could easily read her thoughts. But never entered the privacy of her head. That belonged to her...
He hoped she would open up to him. He knew she was struggling. He could tell it on her face that she was. He just wanted her happy. That's all he wanted. She loved her family he could tell. But he was a bit nervous about having her live with a bunch of vampires. He never told anyone that. Him being one himself. He just kept that part well hidden. He wasn't one to open up. And his family was stunned when he brought Bella home for the first time. They were all happy. Well except Rosalie. She was rather upset. But soon she and managed to have a close knit relationship. And Edward loved that. He was glad the whole family finally accepted his beautiful wife. But he worried a lot about Eva. And wasn't sure if she was happy enough. He had to make sure all was well with her. It was like he was being that over protective big brother. And he was...He loved Eva and would do anything for her. She knew that. And he just waited patiently for her answer....He hoped she would be honest with him. He remembered when she found out they were all vampires. And he was there even though at times she didn't want him to be.

Eva smiled. She knew what Edward was going to say. He would have picked an apple. They really were like twins. They liked the same things. "My mom used to give me an apple everyday with lunch. Sometimes she would cut it up with peanut butter." Eva didn't talk about her birth family much. She never did grieve them. She had just tried to forget. The Cullens made it easy to do. There was always something going on that she always had a distraction. But recently, with all of the studying she had to do to keep good grades, she has been remembering more and more.
And then he mentioned her fear of storms. She quickly grabbed a sip of her drink he had handed her trying not to rush into the answer. When she finished she looked down at her hands. "When I was really little we had a really bad storm roll through. It was night so we were all in bed. Lightning struck the transformer on the house and the sparks that flew caught the house on fire. I remember my parents carrying me out into the rain and the Thunder being so loud and the lightening flashing so bright. I was terrified. I have been since." She finished. It wasn't easy talking about her past life with her other family. She still hahadn't talked about the day her parents had been killed. Slowly a tear escaped from one of her eyes and she quickly swiped it away with the back of her hand. "Sorry. It's a stupid reason. I kept getting told to get over it as I grew up. That it was a phase. But it never stopped." She shrugged before taking another sip of drink.

Edward grimaced as she was telling her the story of one of her child hood memories. He shuttered at the very thought. He would to be terrified of thunderstorms if he went through with what she had to. He just grabbed her in a hugged her lightly then. "I'm so sorry sweetie. Why haven't you told me this yet? I wouldn't be left in the dark. You can tell me anything okay. Please believe that." He said as he hugged her still and laid his head on her neck as he told her that. He hoped that she would understand that no matter what she could come to him for any thing. Just as he said that he heard the family returning and gabbing at the front door. They all got soaked...He sure they for fed though. So all was good. "Edward!! Hey! I knew you'd visit today!" Alice said as she happy walked into the kitchen...."Eva are you okay? I'm so sorry we had to leave. I wish we had a generator. I keep telling daddy we need one...." Alice rambled on as Edward just smiled at Eva. "Now I'm thinking its time we get one..."Carlisle said as he walked into the kitchen....
Rosalie, and Emmet disappeared upstairs as Esme went to go change. And Alice let Jasper go change as well. "Are you alright sis?" Alice asked as she turned the heat up on the thermostat for Eva to get warm and grabbed a blanket off the couch and wrapped it around her sisters shoulders. She loved Eva as much as she did when she met Bella. And these two had a great friendship. Alice always loved taking Eva shopping. Emmett helped Edward build a bigger walk in closet in his old bedroom so Eva could have a walk in closet. And all the trimmings a young teenager needed. Esme made sure there was always food here and the necessities that Eva needed to live on. Yup Eva was deeply love. Rosalie was kinda quiet around her. Because to her she seemed like another Bella. She saw this as history repeating itself. But of course no one listened to her. As usual. "I hope that Edward was able to calm you down honey..." Carlisle said as he walked over and hugged his daughter with love. He loved everyone here. And looked out for them all.

Eva sighed softly. Edward was so sweet to her and she loved these moments when they had the place to themselves. Everything got so hectic when you added the rest of the family in. "I just try to push my past away. I want to move on. But sometimes it's harder than others." She spoke softly. And it was true. She just wanted to move on and be happy with her life as it was now. Being here with the Cullens was a nice change from where she was before. She had anything and everything she could ever want or need.
She let Edward hold her close in his soft embrace. He was so sweet to her. The best brother she could ever ask for. But then the door was flung b open and people began filing in dripping like drowned cats. It made Eva want to smile. "Everything is fine. Edward was just making me some dinner." She smiled hoping it would ease their minds a little. Eva let Alice wrap her in a blanket and welcomed the warmth. Sometimes the house was cold even with a sweater. She often had to adjust the thermostat since she was the only one that felt the heat. But in the end Eva loved it here and that was all that mattered.
